Some people consider the Red Velvet cake posh and fancy, and some people think its crass and brash. At Anges we think it's all of that and created our version by amping up the ooomph factor and making it totally deep, dark and deliciously naughty. You could almost picture Jessica Rabbit jumping out of this cake singing "Happy Birthday, Mr President".

The history of Red Velvet cake goes something like this - there's not much to it actually. Bakers during the Great Depression added food colouring or beets to cake sponges that were made using buttermilk and a dash of vinegar to make it extra scrumdiddlyumptious and visually striking. The buttermilk makes the sponges retain its moisture and lightness, while the red hue is suggestive, tempting and attention grabbing. We eat with our eyes first don't we?

Three layers of deep and dark red velvet sponge with Belgian cocoa and buttermilk sponges, smothered and sandwiched with Swiss meringue buttercream, glazed in Belgian chocolate ganache and decorated with red velvet cupcake, mini cupcakes, chocolate pearls, buttercream flowers and red velvet brownie truffles.

Red Velvet Sponge: Wheat flour (gluten), eggsmilk, buttermilk (milk), sugar, baking powder, vanilla extract, cocoa powder, colouring Red [Vegetable Glycerine E422, Mono Propylene Glycol E1520, Water, Ponceau 4R E124, Allura Red E129].

Buttercream: Sugar, egg white, butter (milk), vanilla extract, salt.

Chocolate Drip: Dark chocolate (milk, soya), butter (milk).

Red Velvet Brownie Truffles: Wheat flour (gluten), eggs, butter (milk), dark chocolate (milk, soya), milk, buttermilk (milk), sugar, baking powder, vanilla extract, cocoa powder, colouring Red [Vegetable Glycerine E422, Mono Propylene Glycol E1520, Water, Ponceau 4R E124, Allura Red E129].

White Chocolate Crispearls: White Chocolate 85% (sugar, cocoa fat, dry whole milk, milk sugar, dry cream, whey, natural vanilla flavour), crisped cereals (wheat flour, sugar, wheat malt flour, wheat starch, sodium bicarbonate added as raising agent, vegetable fat (soya, palm, rapeseed), salt, natural vanilla flavour), sugar, glucose syrup (wheat), modified potato starch. May contain peanuts, nuts, milk.

Although not necessarily present in this particular product, the colours used across our range of products may include the colours E102*, E104, E110, E122 & E129 - which may have an adverse effect on activity and attention in some children. All products are produced on premises handling eggs, gluten, nuts, peanuts, milk, sesame and soya hence may contain traces. Please note cakes may contain cocktail sticks and dowelling for support. Each cake is hand-made individually and carefully and while will look similar to the images, may not be identical.

We delivery between Tuesday and Saturday each week (no Sunday or Monday).

Delivery outside of Central London is based on distance from our bakery. To view the cost add the item to your basket and add your delivery details.

We need 2 days notice to prepare your cake – e.g to get a cake on Friday you will need to order by midnight on Wednesday.  

Cakes are delivered fresh from our bakery during normal working hours. Timed deliveries can be arranged at cost by emailing us. We do aim to delivery your cake as early as possible. 

If you cannot accept delivery please make alternative arrangements, e.g. leave with neighbour. 

While all our cakes are baked with wheat flour and include gluten, we are able to bake gluten-free Vanilla sponge and add toppings which are free from gluten-including ingredients such as macaroons, popcorn, fudge, upon request. All our cakes contain egg, dairy and traces of soya, and are baked in premises where we handle nuts, gluten, peanuts and food colourings.
