I could literally not be happier with the heatwave being gone this week! I know, I know, summer lasted all but for 2 days but this calmer weather helps bakers with buttercream birthday cakes to make stay calm.
We have had some awesome birthday cakes go out this week! We've delivered our best-selling cakes to some popular London restaurants and bars including Kai, Zigfrid von Underbelly in Hoxton Square, Bourne & Hollingsworth, and even all the way to Buckinghamshire.
We also had a super cool bespoke birthday cake order for Edward with a hand-made chocolate turtle - HOW CUTE IS THIS GUY!?
What's more, is that we have also received a record number of great reviews in a week too! These are just a few examples of our recent reviews:
"Just amazing in looks and in taste as well. I ordered this for my daughter's 21st birthday party. Every single guest praised the cake. It went down as a treat. I will say it was just perfect." - Harjinder on the Triple Decker Golden Stella Cake
"All was perfect! The cake and the delivery! Thank you very much" - Noemi on the Pink Flamingo Cake
One review that particularly touched my heart was Antigone's:
"I have to admit I was a bit apprehensive about my cake as the first one I had in the past was a little dry but this cake was absolutely mind blowing that 4 days later I am still thinking about it and wish I could have more. The cake was fresh, moist and lovely and soft. As soon as you open the box you immediately smell the fresh chocolate.
My only regret is that I didn't buy it in the larger size
Thank you so much for the friendly service and wonderfully tasting cake I can't wait to get my next one" - Antigone on the Royal Doughnut Cookie Monster Cake
When I first started reading it and read the word "dry" my heart sank - as each of our cakes are freshly baked to order, often "dryness" is something we, or indeed any decent baker, can do very little about. If everything is baked as per the tried and tested technique and recipe then texture very much depends on personal preference, the way the cake is stored (never in the fridge, or out in the open!) or how long after delivery the cake was consumed, ie: factors that are largely out of a baker's control. Furthermore, cakes made with oil are a lot greasier (a popular choice for supermarket cakes or bakeries wishing to cut costs and/or increase shelf life), which may be perceived as more "moist" by some palates, than cakes made with pure butter. Basically, we are creating an item of food according to what we believe tastes AND looks great and hope to please everybody, no matter how different in their tastes and preferences, with the one item. This is not exactly a piece of cake (pun intended), and could actually be nigh impossible - case in point, I prefer GBK, hubby prefers Byron. I could go on and on with examples of our differences in tastes but when it comes to our cakes we sincerely always hope and work to please. It's just human nature I suppose?
But as I read on more of the review my heart kept getting lifted up higher and higher - we have a customer who not only gave us a second chance, but was won over by our cake and wants to come back again! That has got to be one of the MOST satisfactory achievements there ever is and we are so so SO grateful for such fabulous customers. You guys are worth busting our guts through heatwave after heatwave for.
Lots of love,
Reshmi xoxo
