Posh Chocolate Hazelnut Cake

A chocolate hazelnut cake of Belgian cocoa sponge, Belgian chocolate Swiss meringue buttercream, macarons and crushed hazelnuts. The sponge is soft, cocoa-rich and gently rounded, layered with silky chocolate buttercream for a smooth, polished finish. Vanilla buttercream swirls, chocolate and caramel macarons, and roasted hazelnut crumb bring crisp shell, nutty warmth and patisserie detail.

Chocolate and hazelnut is one of those pairings that never needs shouting about. I wanted this cake to feel a little grown-up and quietly glamorous, with the richness softened by elegant piping, muted tones and macarons. It is posh without being precious, which is exactly where I like a celebration cake to sit.

Chocolate Sponge:  Flour (wheat, gluten), sugar, egg, milk, cocoa, sunflower oil, sodium bicarbonate (raising agent: E500), instant coffee granules, vanilla extract.

Buttercream: Sugar, egg white, butter (milk), vanilla extract, salt, cocoa.

Decorations:

Macarons: Icing Sugar, Almonds (Nuts), Sugar, Butter (Milk)Egg WhiteTonka Bean Extract (natural flavouring), Cream (Milk)White chocolate (Belgian white chocolate Couverture, sugar, cocoa butter, whole milk powder, cocoa mass, emulsifier; soya lecithin, natural vanilla), colour e133, e122.

Crushed hazelnuts (nuts).
