This London wedding cake is a useful example of custom rather than bespoke work: the couple began with an existing Anges de Sucre design, then the finish, colour and floral detail were adapted for their day.

An Existing Design, Adapted For The Wedding
The centrepiece was our Peonies & Roses Buttercream Flower Cake, dressed in hand-piped peonies, roses and smaller blossoms. The underlying cake already existed within the Anges de Sucre design language; the private brief shaped the finish, colour, floral balance and overall mood.
That distinction matters. Under our current definitions, an existing design that is materially adapted is custom. A cake created from a blank page around a new structure, setting, guest count, flavour plan and original concept is bespoke. A name, date or short message added without materially changing the design is personalised.
The Cake Itself
The flowers were made in buttercream rather than sugarpaste, giving the cake a softer, more edible quality. Beneath them were layers of vanilla sponge with silky Swiss meringue buttercream. The point was not simply to create something photogenic. A wedding cake still has to be eaten after the photographs have had their moment.
Because the design family was already established, the work was not a blank-page commission. The skill was in adapting it so the cake felt right for this particular wedding without pretending it was an entirely new design.

Why Custom Was The Right Route
The couple did not need a completely new cake invented from scratch. They already liked the Peonies & Roses design. What they needed was a considered adaptation that belonged in their room and worked with the wider wedding aesthetic.
This is exactly where custom sits between product choice and bespoke design. Standard offered size or flavour choices remain product options. A simple identifying message is personalisation. Material changes to an existing design are custom. Only a genuinely original blank-page commission is bespoke.
Other Buttercream Wedding Cakes
The same design language can move in very different directions depending on colour, flower balance and finish. That is why custom work is useful: it lets an established cake evolve without inventing an entirely new commission.

Choose The Right Wedding Cake Route
Start with our wedding cake collection if you already like an existing design. Choose custom when that design needs substantive decorative changes. Choose bespoke when the cake needs to be designed from the ground up.
Planning A Wedding Cake?
The right route depends on how much of the cake already exists. Existing design with sensible product choices: order from the collection. Existing design with material changes: custom. Blank page: bespoke.
