Best Pistachio Cream Spreads UK — Our July 2025 Taste Test

We have been baking with pistachio for years, so the test was simple: which spread actually tasted of pistachio, had a useful texture and behaved well enough to earn a place in cake?

Our ranking at the time

1. Pisti Pistachio Cream — 5/5. 45% pistachio in the jar we tested. Deep colour, strong flavour and a versatile texture. We bought 600g jars from Costco at £6.49 during the test.
2. Black Milk Pistachio Spread — 4/5. 20% pistachio in the jar tested. Good green colour, runnier texture and surprisingly strong flavour. The tested 230g jar was £5.45.
3. Tesco Finest Pistachio Creme — 4/5. 30% pistachio in the tested jar. Thick and useful for layering. The July 2025 test price was £4 for 300g; do not treat that as today’s price.
4. Sainsbury’s Taste The Difference Pistachio Creme — 3/5. Similar in style to the Tesco product in our test, but we preferred Tesco’s flavour. The tested 300g jar was £4.75.
5. M&S Collection Pistachio Creme — 3/5. 20% pistachio in the jar we tasted. Pleasant enough, but comparatively pale in flavour and colour. The tested 220g jar was £4.75.
6. Rhythm 108 Pistachio Spread — 3/5. This was the option labelled dairy-free in our July 2025 test. Formulations and cross-contact statements can change, so anyone avoiding milk or another allergen must check the current label rather than rely on this article. The tested 250g jar was £6.50.
7. Lidl Italiamo Pistachio Spread — 2/5. 20% pistachio in the tested jar, but very sweet with a texture we did not love. The tested 190g jar was £2.99.
8. Aldi Specially Selected Pistachio Creme — 1/5. 10% pistachio in the jar we tested and, to our taste, far too sweet. The tested 200g jar was £1.79.

What mattered more than the price

Pistachio percentage was useful, but it was not the whole story. Black Milk performed better than some products with similar nut percentages, which tells you formulation, sweetness, fat, flavourings and texture matter too.

For cake, I want a spread that tastes recognisably of pistachio without overwhelming everything else. Our current pistachio cakes are the better place to see how we use the flavour in finished celebration cakes.
