Vintage Victoria Sponge Cake

I first tasted Victoria sponge after moving to the UK for university, and learnt very quickly not to underestimate its quiet magic: golden sponge, cream and jam can be extraordinary when the balance is right, so this version keeps the comfort of the British classic but gives it a more dressed-up Anges de Sucre finish, with Madagascan vanilla sponge, less-sweet vanilla buttercream, strawberry jam, cherries, heart-shaped jam biscuits and elegant piping.
