This is only the cake I've been dying to make forever, one that is inspired by a much loved book by Lewis Carroll and one of my favourite Disney movies - Alice in Wonderland. There are so many versions of it, due to its insane popularity both amongst kids and grown ups, but all of them are novelty versions, which I'm not keen on as they're hackneyed, and heavily reliant on sugarpaste and fondant decorations.

So it took quite a long while dreaming up the design and it was very much an iterative process. With so many colours and story lines it was proving to be quite a challenge to bring it all together so that it looked great both as a 6" or multi-tiered cake. I didn't want to have to choose between running with the Mad Hatter or the Queen of Hearts as they are both so integral to the story, along with Alice herself of course.
After many hours of dreaming, tweaking and magic mushroom popping I think we've summed up the story incredibly well, bringing in the whimsy into this Wonderland cake too. We've got Alice's frock's blue and white colours and magic mushrooms via the cream cheese buttercream and cute chocolate toadstools, the Mad Hatter's chocolate teapot with salted caramel tea spilling out of chocolate cups and macarons, along with the Queen of Heart's chocolate playing cards and red and white buttercream roses, with chocolate glaze all tumbling down Triple Decker layers of Red Velvet sponge rabbit-hole style.
There are legions of Alice in Wonderland fans across the world and this cake is our very own unique interpretation of the classic. I can't wait for a couple to choose this as their wedding cake for an Alice in Wonderland themed wedding!
